“Peace Of My Heart” Music Video Release by Molly Moore

Molly Moore just dropped the visual accompaniment to her new single “Peace Of My Heart”. Teasers of the video have been released on social media, tantalizing her thousands of fans across internet platforms, and finally, the video is here.

molly moore peace of my heart

Shot and directed by Nik Tizekker of Tizaster
Productions
and co-directed by Moore, the video highlights the narrative of a complicated relationship with the interlacing of images of destruction: flowers falling apart and back together, a TV shattering, once blank walls now covered in swirls of ink and color. The juxtaposition found within these images illuminates the underlying truth of the song, which is that there is no easy answer or simple solution to any relationship – there is always a place for peace and war to grow.

Moore shines in this video, showcasing her acting chops as she casts furtive glances towards the camera. The entire story is simply told in her eyes, as her expression changes from desperate, to submissive, to cold frustration.

Real life boyfriend and fellow singer-songwriter-producer Brandyn Burnette makes an appearance as Moore’s love interest, personifying the circle of emotions that swirls throughout the video, perfectly paired with the song’s lyrics.

Between Moore’s presence in front of the camera, the beautiful and unique shots by Tizekker, and the lyrics, co-written by Moore and Burnette, Peace Of My Heart is hereby crowned a great artistic success.

“Shapes” New Release by Fjord

I discovered this new release by ambient dream-pop duo Fjord in Soundcloud’s “recommended for you” section, and I am so happy I had the time to browse today.

fjord shapes

The opening melodic line of “Shapes” is not unlike the heartwrenching ballad “Unsteady” by X Ambassadors. Mixed with R&B and ambient production elements, this lyrically simple song truly soars straight to the heart with its naked choruses and raw emotions that are stirred therein.

The duo from Quebec, made of Thomas Casault and Louis-Étienne Santais, were recently featured on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist, showcasing “Shapes” as one of the new highlights of the week.

Keeping on with a tradition of ethereal musicality and hauntingly beautiful vocal lines, perfectly executed, Fjord hits a home run with this track. We look forward to hearing more dreamlike tunes from this alternative duo.

“Grace” Single Release by McKail Seely

A refreshing breeze blew through the internet music hubs in the form of singer-songwriter McKail Seely‘s new single, “Grace”. Released in February in a world filled with half-hearted, twice-edited pop beats, the song brings a frankness and openness to the many online venues that is both refreshing, and a relief.

mckailseely

“Grace”, in Seely’s words, began as a typical breakup song, but soon became a ballad about so much more. In the song, Seely laments a lost relationship, in a format like a love letter that will never be sent, or a page of a diary that her lost lover will never see. But the song transcends into a hopeful place, as the songstress remembers that there is more to life than the present, that tomorrow is an ever-coming day full of possibilities, if we can have the strength and wisdom to let go of what we cannot control.

As I listened to the song for the first time, I was drawn by Seely’s wailing vocals, full of emotion and vulnerability that is a rare treasure in today’s world of melodine and autotune. Her writing mirrored many of the expressions of my own heart, with an honesty that immediately quieted the world around me and drew me in. The folksy instrumentation makes the song feel like a timeless tradition, that has been sung in a hometown bar or favorite cafe for generations.

The wisdom, vulnerability, and simplicity of “Grace” make it everything a song should be: honest, moving, and the product of a heart’s confessions.

You can purchase “Grace” at iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify. If you’re local to LA, you can see the talented Salt Lake City native perform at coffee shops, cafes, and even yoga studios on a regular basis, by keeping up with her on her Facebook page.

“Dreamers” Single Release by Villains In Love

This Brooklyn, NY based indie synth duo stumbled across me on instagram, and directed me to their new single “Dreamers”. I followed their promptings, and was rewarded with a delightful style of music I haven’t heard since Broadway star Gavin Creel released his pop album Goodtimenation in 2006.

villains in love

Villains in Love members Blake Charleton and Renae Adams bring similar theatrics and electronic elements to their new single, “Dreamers”, which will be released on iTunes on February 10th, 2015. The song, bringing romantic lyrics, peppy production, and powerful vocals to a mystifying point, is available for streaming on the duo’s soundcloud.

“Dreamers” is playful, enticing, and a breath of fresh air that deviates from today’s mainstream sounds, while still adhering to enough modern influences to feel relevant.

The fresh production and theatrical elements make the song distinctly NYC, and this indie synth Karmin can be experienced at such Manhattan venues as Rockwood Music Hall and Mercury Lounge.

Follow them on instagram (@villainsinlove) to stay up to date on upcoming shows, their EP release (coming spring 2015), their album release (slated for fall 2015), and of course, head to iTunes and purchase “Dreamers” on February 10th, 2015.

“She’s A Devil” Music Video Release by La Madness

The newest video from Minneapolis band La Madness was leaked last night, to great response. “She’s A Devil” has already garnered almost 2,000 views in just a few short hours, and it’s no surprise: put great music together with a beautiful girl, add a few shots of something clear and dangerous, and you’ve got an addictive rock video.

la madness she's a devil

The video to a track from the band’s debut album, “Chances Are”, features 93X Girl Stephanie Bailey and over a year’s worth of footage from La Madness’ notoriously awesome live shows.

“Chances Are” was released to critical acclaim earlier this year, and the band is already recording music for their highly anticipated second EP.

We hope to see La Madness hit the streets of LA with their rock-induced party swag as soon as possible (Kurt, no more games).

Sharin LIVE at The Mint

Latin singer-songwriter Sharin hit the LA stage for the first time on Tuesday night, lighting up The Mint with her irresistible charm and heartwarming music.

SHARIN1

Sharin, who moved to LA less than a year ago, has lived all over the country, starting in Tampa, FL, where she was born and raised and first fell in love with music. By the age of 9, she was composing her own pieces using a variety of instruments. The Berklee graduate brought an acoustic guitar with her to the stage for this performance, a show that was originally meant to be a full band experience, but due to unforeseen circumstances, became a one-woman presentation.

Sharin handled the situation with grace and sang her original music in not one, but three languages during her set at The Mint. From her opening number “Over You” to her Spanish hit “Sin Ti” to the Portuguese rendition of the title track of her newly released EP “Quiero”, Sharin was able to captivate the audience regardless of the language in which she sang. This ability to draw in a primarily English-speaking audience reflects on her unique capabilities as a songwriter and as a performer.

When watching Sharin, it is evident that her love for music runs deep, and has been influenced by the ups and downs she has experienced in her life. From attending one of the most rigorous musical programs in the world to battling stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer, Sharin has landed in LA with the determination to share her love for life and music with the world. We wish her all the best in doing so.

Alexa LIVE at Station Unplugged (The W Hollywood)

The singer from rock band Oversoul hit the stage in an acoustic set last night to promote her upcoming solo EP at Station Unplugged, courtesy of the W hotel in Hollywood.

alexavilla

Based in San Diego, Alexa Villa, known on the music scene as “Alexa”, is a singer-songwriter, talented pianist, and model. The young artist spends her time between San Diego, where her band Oversoul is based, and LA where she ventures for meetings, shows, and model calls (LA Fashion Week and the spread of Women’s Wear Daily, to name a few).

Last night, Alexa left her band at home, calling only on the guitar and background vocal talents of her brother, Ryan, also a member of Oversoul, to accompany her in her first solo show in Los Angeles in a while.

Promoting her upcoming EP (release date TBA), Alexa appeared behind a full weighted keyboard, armed with black leather and spidery fish-netted legs that mean business.

Her rock background was apparent, but if the audience thought her looks were stunning, they soon found that there is more to Alexa than meets the eye. The moment Alexa starts singing, the world stops to listen. The 20 year old’s wailing, powerhouse vocals, perfect for the rock scene, are surprisingly well-suited for her own compositions, which detail the power struggle in relationships and the sometimes difficult task of accepting things the way they are. Alexa’s chant sections bring the listener to the party, while her chromatic melodies catch us off-guard, showcasing her musical expertise.

Alexa highlighted the show with the leaked track from her upcoming EP, “Do What You Do To Me” – a playful number, if not somewhat masochistic, as love almost always is. Joining the ranks of popular rock voices Amy Lee (Evanescence) and Hayley Williams (Paramore), Alexa’s vocals soared from rock party song to the intense solo ballad, “Hope”, which was recently recorded at the legendary Jungle Room studios in LA.

With a voice built to fill out larger venues, it is no wonder Alexa is finding success in the rock world as front woman of Oversoul, but she also has the important ability to stand alone, without the support of a rock band behind her. As her vocals brought people pouring into the popular night spot from the train station and the street, catching mere musical phrases and wanting more,  it became clear that Alexa’s solo venture has just as much promise as her rock career, if not more.

This young lady has it all – the look, the voice, the writing ability, the musical talent. The only way to describe Alexa: simply stunning.

Alexa’s new track “Picture Perfect” has gained critical acclaim and airplay in San Diego. You can catch Alexa at a free show at The House of Blues – San Diego on August 5th, at 8pm.

For more on Alexa, and to stay up to date on her solo EP release and shows in Los Angeles, follow her on instagram and twitter @thealexavilla, find her on Facebookand listen to her music on soundcloud.

“Maybe If I” Single Release by Savannah May

Arizona singer/songwriter Savannah May dropped her new R&B single “Maybe If I” this past week, and it has been on replay in the Dorman household since its release.

savannahmay

The chill, vibe-y production (courtesy of producer “lunatix”) is itself a great sell, but the lyrics are what makes this single a buzz-worthy song. The track brings listeners into the mind of the troubled half of a failing relationship, a place most of us have known at one time or another. Savannah May asks the questions of herself: “Maybe if I…” fill in the blank. The underlying question is, how do I make this person love me?

The soulful chorus brings us to the realization that this person will just never love the singer, and that being true to ourselves is the most important thing at the end of the day.

The smoothness of the track contradicts with the pleading, confused lyrics, but bringing everything together, the song does exactly what it’s supposed to: it reflects the ironic and tumultuous ebb and flow of romantic relationships.

The perfect song for a summer drive, “Maybe If I” is available for free download at Savannah May’s SoundCloud, as a teaser to her mixtape MAYDAY, which will be released July 7th, 2014, in time for her southwest tour (dates TBA).

“Ain’t Got Time” Single Release by Track Martians

The creative music group Track Martians, based in Studio City, CA, released their much anticipated debut single today, featuring Track Martians First Lady, Anjaleia McDonald.

track martians

The group has labeled this single as a song that will raise the bar for the R&B standards in the industry, pushing the hashtag #HelpBringR&BBack.

Produced by Track Martians super producer GXMusic, the club beats mixed with live band sounds brings the listener back to a time when live R&B music was first running rampant in the major American cities. Flowing lyrics and vocal harmonies meet guitar riffs and brass lines, cascading together to the catchy hook that every scorned woman will raise their glass to and make their own personal freedom anthem.

Clear that first spot on your iPod and make room for Track Martians. The track is groovy, catchy, feel good, and yet incredibly sassy. From the musicality to the rap section to Anjaleia’s powerful vocals, “Ain’t Got Time” is a single very much worth your time.

“Shape of Things to Come” Music Video Release by Shannon Hurley

This morning, Shannon Hurley released her newest creative venture: a delightful and cheeky music video to her inspirational song, “Shape of Things to Come”.

shannon hurley

The video captures the playful and hopeful essence of the song, while showcasing some of the most famous sights in Los Angeles, CA. Hurley, originally from Indiana, has made Los Angeles her home since 2001, and this music video is a beautiful homage to the city that has helped her grow into the artist she is today.

Viewers are captivated from the beginning, as a perky Hurley waltzes across the screen to the front of a theater with her name in lights, carrying a lime green step stool. The stool is quickly followed by a toy piano, upon which Hurley proceeds to play one singular black note in repetition as the song begins.

From here, the viewer is brought on a journey (with the toy piano) through Los Angeles, from the Hollywood sign to the house where the popular TV show Charmed was filmed to the luxurious Westin Bonaventure hotel in downtown LA. Any lover of California will be warmed by the sight of their favorite spots, the places that have made Los Angeles a sought after tourist destination for years.

Hurley brings a great friendliness and cheer to the screen, which reflects the warm, encouraging tones of the song that inspired the video. “Shape of Things to Come” is the perfect anthem for the California dreamer, and the newly released music video is a superlative example of the affection for our city that Angelenos fondly refer to as, “Cali Love”.

Shannon Hurley’s music has been heard in department stores and restaurants worldwide, as well as on popular television shows like 90210, So You Think You Can Dance, and American Idol
